For the last number of weeks, we have been running an appeal to gather Christmas presents for the children of the families we support. The response was overwhelming – with not only Christmas presents being received but also general donations, both financial and otherwise. The goodwill and charitable nature of the donors never ceased to amaze us – and each day unfolded another Christmas miracle as more and more hearts were opened.
Santa’s first delivery was to our dear family living near Ploiesti, who moved into their new house a number of months ago and are now spending their first Christmas in a proper home. It was smiles all round as the presents were given: New hats, scarves, coloring books and toy cars – as well as plenty of chocolate and treats.
One of the boys instantly began drawing in his coloring book. As Molly, a sister visiting from Australia noted: the first thing he drew was a house.
We were so grateful to be able to fill their new home with some Christmas cheer.
Another family in Titesti also received a visit from Santa. The presents were frantically unwrapped with squeals of delight. Sebe, the 7 year old, was extremely impressed, saying: “I knew Santa was magic but I didn’t know he was SO magic. How did he know I needed a new pair of pants?”
Last Saturday, Santa had the main present-giving. The centre was chock-a-block full of children and families. It was a struggle to prevent them from opening their presents immediately and each child was sneakily attempting to peel back the wrapping to see what was inside. But each child received a gift and afterwards we had food and treats – a proper Christmas feast.
We want to extend an enormous thank you to the people who donated their time, effort and money to create so much happiness. The Romanian winter has begun, but due to the kindness and generosity of our wonderful supporters, there are many warm smiles and happy hearts.
